Tax Relief
Residents of Beverly don’t want new taxes or higher taxes to support unsustainable spending levels by their government. In fact, Beverly's current state representative told the Boston Globe in 2003 that during her first campaign, the message to her was clear: no new taxes. Unfortunately, in eight years that message never made it to Beacon Hill.
Taxpayers in Beverly voted to roll back the income tax to 5.0%, they joined with me to protest a gas tax increase proposed by their own state representative, and in 2008 they soundly defeated the city’s only Proposition 2 1/2 override attempt by a 2-to-1 margin.
To lower your tax burden:
- I will support efforts to roll-back the recent increases in sales and meals tax and return them to 5.0%
- I will support efforts to honor the will of the state’s voters by reducing the state’s income tax to 5.0%
