Brett Schetzsle Earns Endorsement of Citizens for Limited Taxation 2 1/2 PAC
Campaign's First Endorsement Comes from State's Premier Taxpayer Advocacy Group

Brett Schetzsle, Republican candidate for State Representative in the 6th Essex District, announced today that his campaign has earned the endorsement of the Citizens for Limited Taxation 2 1/2 Political Action Committee as a result of his pledge to block attempts to impose new taxes and to support policy favorable to taxpayers as Beverly's representative on Beacon Hill.

"I am honored to earn the support of a group that for nearly four decades has been the strongest voice for taxpayers in our state and has had, arguably, more impact on public policy over that time than any other group. I am committed to delivering to the state house a message that the people of Beverly do not want new taxes - a message that has not been delivered by its current representative over the last eight years," commented Schetzsle.

He added, "I am confident that I will be the only candidate in this race who will definitively make this commitment to the people of Beverly."

CLT’S 2 ½ PAC, the political arm of Citizens for Limited Taxation, was originally created to support candidates who would defend Proposition 2 ½ in the State Legislature.  It now endorses candidates who support taxpayers on a variety of issues, and uses the CLT Legislative Rating to identify pro-taxpayer legislators. Beverly's current state representative earned a 6% rating during the 2007-08 legislative session and a 7% rating in 2009. Both were among the lowest in the state.

Francis J. Faulkner, executive director of the PAC, said the group endorsed Schetzsle based on his strong, consistent support for tax limitation.

Faulkner commented, “We need to put people like Brett Schetzsle in the State Legislature to continue the fight for the income tax rollback and to block any attempt to impose new taxes.  Brett has also taken the taxpayer protection pledge.  This pledge asks candidates to ‘oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.’  A candidate who signs the pledge is sending a message to legislative leaders that he is serious about not raising taxes and will focus instead on better management of state revenues.”

In a move consistent with his belief in transparency for voters and constituents, Schetzsle will make available on his website a copy of the signed taxpayer pledge as well as the questionnaire he completed to earn the CLT endorsement. He will also make available the supporting materials for any other endorsements earned by his campaign.

Schetzsle added, "I want voters to understand exactly what I have pledged to any group whose endorsement I accept so they can truly judge the value of that endorsement. I am hopeful that the other candidates in this race will live up to the same standard of transparency and be public with the conditions of their endorsements as well. There are groups who will seek to make endorsements in this race who will extract promises to act or vote on issues in a way that will be at odds with the best interests of the taxpayers in Beverly and voters should be able to see when candidates have pledged to put those special interest priorities ahead of the district in exchange for support."
