Brett Schetzsleʼs (rhymes with ʻpretzelʼ) path to becoming a candidate for State Representative in Beverly, Massachusetts is hardly what one would call “conventional.”

Brett is the proud owner of a diploma and a degree from public schools and in high school was an Academic All-State quarterback and played basketball in some of the same gymnasiums as a certain Celtic legend named Larry. He also served as an officer on the student council, but that would be as close to politics as Brett ever thought he would be.Brett in White Mountains

In college, Brett was lucky enough to keep playing a little football, but it was no free ride on his way to graduating with honors. Needing work study, financial aid, student loans and two jobs during the summer months, he and his parents faced the same tough choices that parents and students face today when trying to pay for a college education.

Out of college, Brett was able to do a job that most only dream of doing while working as a sportscaster. His work took him to the small towns of minor league baseball, put him on the sidelines for big-time college football games, and put him court-side for the NCAA tournament and in some of the most storied arenas in college basketball.

Brett and KellyBrett completed his MBA in 2005 as he worked his way through business school, juggling two jobs and a new marriage along the way. That hard work paid off in the form of a job with one of the most respected companies in the world where he has spent the last five years helping to improve the lives of others in small, but meaningful, ways - something he thinks is pretty good training for someone seeking elected office.

His inspiration to run for office has only come in the last two years as the newspapers have been filled with a near-constant stream of ugly headlines involving the stateʼs government. During that time, he has been active in re-energizing local Republican groups, organizing campaign volunteers and providing a strong, taxpayer-friendly view point in local papers on issues like the proposed gas tax increase, municipal health reform, and the stateʼs irresponsible budgets. Now, heʼs ready to put his energy and ideas to use in making a difference on Beacon Hill.
